Overview
Mata's Darshan and the Road to Ladakh
This is our longest and most adventurous combination. You start in Katra with darshan at the holy Bhawan, then travel by road through Kashmir and over the mountains into Ladakh, arriving at Leh after several days of steadily rising altitude.
Going by road has one big advantage for health: your body gets time to adjust. Even so, Ladakh is high-altitude country, and everyone needs to take it easy on the first day in Leh, drink plenty of water and avoid rushing. Anyone with heart or breathing problems should consult a doctor before booking.
Highlights after Leh include the Nubra valley over Khardung La, with its sand dunes and optional camel rides, and the famous blue waters of Pangong Lake. Nights in remote areas are in simple hotels, guest houses or fixed camps, as facilities there are basic.
Prefer to Fly to Leh?
Many travellers fly into Leh instead and keep the road section short. That saves days but needs a longer rest on arrival for acclimatisation. Ask us for a fly-in plan. If Ladakh feels too ambitious, the Vaishno Devi Kashmir tour package is gentler and shorter.
