Many devotees from Chennai have dreamt of Vaishno Devi darshan for years but held back because of the distance and the climb. With flights to Jammu and a helicopter from Katra, the trip now takes a few days and very little walking.
Flights from Chennai International Airport to Jammu usually connect through Delhi. The train is possible, with services towards Jammu and Katra, but it typically takes more than two days each way, so most families fly, especially with elders.
In Jammu our driver meets you and drives about 50 km to Katra. The next morning you fly to Sanjichhat, walk or ride around 3 km to the Bhawan, and return by helicopter the same day.

Dress Warm: It Is Not Chennai Weather
Chennai families are often surprised by the cold. Katra is cool even in summer mornings, and from November to February the Bhawan can be near freezing. Pack sweaters, thermals, socks, a cap and closed shoes, and keep a shawl handy in your cabin bag.

- Day 2 · Helicopter darshanCollect the Yatra RFID cards and report at the Katra helipad. A flight of about 6 minutes takes you to Sanjichhat. Walk or take a pony about 3 km to the Bhawan, and fly back after darshan.
