For families in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula, Vaishno Devi is close enough for a long weekend. The road through Punjab towards Pathankot and Jammu is familiar to many, and with a private car you can stop for a dhaba breakfast and still reach Katra by afternoon. Expect the drive to take around 6–7 hours, depending on traffic.
Once in Katra, the helicopter does the hard work. A flight of about 6 minutes takes you to Sanjichhat, and from there the Bhawan is about 3 km on foot or by pony. With same-day return, you are back at the hotel by evening.
If you would rather not spend a day on the road, you can fly to Jammu instead; flights from Chandigarh usually connect through Delhi. Our driver then meets you at Jammu Airport, about 50 km from Katra.
