Planning the Yatra from Kanpur
Families from Kanpur have long made the journey to Mata Vaishno Devi by rail. The usual way is a train to Jammu Tawi or straight to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra station, either directly when a convenient train runs or with a change at Delhi. Expect most of a day and a night on the train, so an AC sleeper berth makes a real difference.
If you have fewer days off, a flight to Jammu is the quicker choice. Kanpur has limited flights, so many travellers fly out of Lucknow instead and usually connect via Delhi. From Jammu Airport, our driver brings you about 50 km to Katra, the base town for the yatra.
In Katra we handle the hotel, your Yatra RFID card guidance and the car. The climb to the Bhawan is about 12–13 km via Banganga, Charan Paduka and Ardhkuwari. You can walk, take a pony or palki, or fly to Sanjichhat if you add the helicopter.
