From the South to Mata's Darbar in the Himalayan Foothills
For Tamil families, Vaishno Devi is one of the great northern pilgrimages, often planned for years. The distance is long and the climate is very different from home, so we focus on making the journey simple and keeping everyone warm and comfortable.
Flying is the practical choice from Tamil Nadu. Flights from Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai or Trichy to Jammu usually connect through Delhi or Bengaluru. Trains to Jammu Tawi and Katra are possible too, but the journey runs to roughly two days or more each way, so we suggest them only to families with plenty of time.
At Jammu Airport our driver receives you and drives about 50 km to Katra. On darshan day, a six-minute helicopter flight takes you to Sanjichhat, and the Bhawan is about 3 km further on foot or by pony. You fly back the same day, with no need for the long night trek many pilgrims attempt.
Please take the cold seriously. Even in October and March, mornings at Sanjichhat can feel sharp to someone used to Chennai weather, and December to February is properly cold. We share a simple packing list with every booking.
Food and Comfort for South Indian Travellers
Katra has plenty of vegetarian restaurants, and some serve South Indian dishes like idli and dosa, though the taste may differ from home. Families often carry a few ready-to-eat items. For a Chennai-only plan, see our Chennai helicopter package.

- Day 1 · Fly to Jammu, drive to KatraTake an early flight to Jammu with one connection. Our driver meets you at the airport and drives about 50 km to Katra. Check in, collect Yatra RFID cards and have a warm dinner.
- Day 2 · Helicopter darshanAfter breakfast, report at Counter No. 3 at the Katra helipad. Fly to Sanjichhat, walk or ride about 3 km to the Bhawan and fly back after darshan. Wear layers; it is cooler up there.
- Day 3 · Rest dayRecover from the long journey and the yatra. Visit Bhairon Nath if you wish (ropeway extra), or rest at the hotel.
- Day 4 · Jammu temples and flight homeVisit the Raghunath Temple in Jammu and catch your flight back to Tamil Nadu.
