The shrine of Machail Mata sits deep in the Paddar valley of Kishtwar. During the summer yatra, a helicopter service cuts out the hardest stretch. Here are the sectors, fares and how we help you book.
From ₹4,270 per person, one way
Overview
Machail Mata, a revered form of Goddess Durga, is worshipped at Machail village in the Paddar area of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir. The annual yatra takes place in summer, usually from late July into August or early September, and draws large numbers of devotees from across the region.
The road from Jammu to Gulabgarh, the main town of Paddar, is long and winding: roughly 275 km and 8 to 10 hours via Kishtwar. Beyond Gulabgarh, pilgrims continue on foot along the Chenab tributaries, a demanding walk for elders and children.
During the yatra, a helicopter service is run to cut out this effort. The last published fares were listed by sector between Kishtwar and Gulabgarh, with the short hop to Machail taking about 8 minutes. Because sectors, operators and fares are set each year, we confirm every detail with you before you pay.
Mountain weather in the Paddar valley can change fast and can be severe. Always follow the advisories of the local administration and keep a spare day in your plan.
