Surat is on the busy Western Railway line, and long-distance trains toward Jammu Tawi pass through or start nearby, so the train is a popular and affordable choice. The ride takes over a day each way; an AC berth and home-cooked food make it pleasant, especially in a group.
If time is short, fly to Jammu. Flights from Surat usually connect via Delhi, and some travellers prefer to fly from Ahmedabad or Mumbai for more choice. Our flight package includes the Katra ⇄ Sanjichhat helicopter, so the climb becomes a short walk of about 3 km.
